My navigation skills are worse these days purely as I'm waiting for a black box with a calming female voice to tell me to turn left when in reality, if I were more aware of my surroundings (like I used to be without one), I'd probably know the rough way there anyway. It is a self learning system though so you actually have to train it ! I put this all down to a similar effect to sat navs. The human brain is the most powerful computer people own and yet many just won't plug it in. You sometimes see that some riders are completely in tune with themselves so much that it's not the penalty you think it is. Freak of nature.my poor endurance genetics despises such people. I was in a group ride a couple weeks ago and the best cyclist in the group had nothing on his bike. Sure not everyone needs this to be successful.

I've always been impressed with how much Mark has invested into this application and yet provides it as a free download. I recently cleaned out a lot of charts that I have a hard time understanding and don't feel as if they were pertinent to my simple goals. Whether it is WKO or GC one can choose to get deep into various analysis of data or keep it to simple metrics. If one were to get a power meter it is really nice to just upload to an application that keeps track of everything. I use WKO, but regardless I agree that there is always an opportunity to learn and grow. Just reading the "science" section on the GC website is an education. It's very well documented, and Mark goes to the trouble of making videos that demo most of the features. I think GC can probably help you better understand your own performance with just a heart rate monitor, but it will be an investment in time. Thanks for taking the time to explain it. It is pretty mainstream stuff now t his roundup by DC Rainmaker a couple of years ago is an easy read. There is a section on it in the science area of the GC website. If you are interested in VE (Aerolab) then the platypus thread on slowtwitch is good. On the GC website (and all around the internet) there are resources and tutorials to explain the science and tooling. You can either spare the time to educate yourself about this stuff, work with a coach who has done that for you, or dismiss it and carry on as you were. There are a few things here, top 2 seem to be:ġ) Can using power, hrv, rpe, smo2, aerolab, cp, banister, pmc etc etc etc help me improve my performance? Mario, tell me about this chip on my shoulder, if you have the time, I'm interested to hear more about it from you. What I saw was snark, sorry if I misread it, with so few words on display, it's easy to misread intent. BUT I also don't think that was clear from either your or Mario's post.

So do I invest in a power meter or other tech to use Golden Cheetah (having looked at the software this seems to be my problem as I have a Garmin HR monitor and a very old Tack that shows calculated Watts/Pedal Revs but does not connect to anything). I would really like to improve my performances but have limited funds and time.

I am certainly not decrying the effort to deliver the software. I think there is an assumption by many that everyone understands all the various systems, software terminology etc and some of us really don't and therefore whether they would help or not. The one thing that is very TTF about this thread is people being loudly and publicly unimpressed with the achievement of a 3rd party (that they could probably never achieve themselves.) I don't understand the "speaking in tongues" or "Steven King" thing, that's more oblique than the posts that proceed them. For example, Notio Konnect have built their product around it. He only makes GC because a bunch of people _do_ want/need it, and use it. I doubt he cares if Mario needs or wants it. IRL who would say to someone announcing the end of a round of hard work (that is appreciated by many) "why do I care?" Mark's not _selling_ it. What on earth are you both talking about? If Mario doesn't need/want GC, so what? i think it was a weird response to Mark's post.
